In an AJMC TV interview, Intermountain discusses collaborating with MDClone to develop a Kidney Services model using advanced analytics and machine learning. They emphasize the value of patient data in identifying care gaps, creating targeted interventions, and improving collaborative care with community partners.

For Intermountain, a self-service data platform represented the answer to surmounting these data barriers. The platform enables non-IT users across the organization to directly explore granular longitudinal patient data in a unique model geared towards more rapid and robust insight discovery and care delivery.

Jewish General Hospital decided to address this problem with the Adams platforms from health IT vendor MDClone. The platform offered a tool designed to make it possible for anyone with an idea at the institution to be able to ask a question and get results.

Working with MDClone, a healthcare software company, Jewish General Hospital has developed a self-service data platform to enable clinicians to analyze patient information more quickly.

The Journal of AHIMA surveyed health leaders about what they think will be some of the major issues facing health information professionals throughout 2024.

Therefore, AI will not replace low-code but rather be used in tandem with low-code to improve productivity.

While predictive AI already is a mature technology, it will continue to evolve and improve in the new year with the uptick in data digitization.As providers shift their focus to preventive care, AI can help by analyzing historical patient data and risk factors to detect prospective health problems. A focus on proactive vs. reactive care should translate to lowering the prevalence of chronic diseases and improving population health.

Synthetic data is non-reversible, artificially created data that replicates the statistical characteristics and correlations of real-world, raw data. Utilizing both discrete and non-discrete variables of interest, synthetic data does not contain identifiable information because it uses a statistical approach to create a completely new data set. 

Through her research, Dr. Chen uses data to highlight the specific issues that women with menstrual disorders may face.  For example, more than one in five women experience iron deficiency, and heavy menstrual bleeding is the most common cause.  Using data generated through MDClone at her hospital, Dr. Chen was able to identify that women with iron deficiency anemia were at increased risk of needing a transfusion at the time of gynecologic surgery.

Intermountain Health leveraged a self-service data platform to enable early intervention by deployed algorithms that accurately identify chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients and stratify them based on gaps in care. Notably, this collaboration resulted in an 86% reduction in unplanned admissions for the risk population.

Provider organizations that wish to engage in population health management must continually monitor, optimize and improve their data processes, says one analytics leader.

Synthetic data generation and use can bolster clinical research, application development and data privacy protection efforts in the healthcare sector.

So why not generate artificial data that’s close enough to real-world data that it can be used for many of the same purposes at a fraction of the cost in terms of time, money and risk? That’s the promise of synthetic data – another field where generative AI is quickly becoming a valuable tool.

The evolution of the healthcare industry can be seen in key areas including business model, care delivery, and market positioning. 

What data are researchers looking for to do their jobs effectively? What are the challenges of getting data together from outside the EMR for a more whole person profile? What are some of the approaches and methods for protecting patient data?

Washington University and Ottawa Hospital used synthetic data to review a sepsis prediction model used in both institutions over the course of two phone calls – and avoided months of conventional research arrangements.

By coupling synthetic data with simple, easy to use extraction and modeling tools, clinicians can be granted free access to the breadth of their health systems’ data, allowing them “self-service” to ask their own novel questions that can yield new insights to spur patient care quality improvement initiatives.

And various kinds of AI can help with an array of healthcare issues, especially the staffing shortage and burnout, contends HIMSS23 attendee Dr. Nirav S. Shah of NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health.

Only 16 percent of healthcare organizations said they are using data to identify clinical best practices, showing that hospitals and health systems are facing significant challenges when it comes to harnessing data to improve care quality, a May 9 survey from data company MDClone found. 

The healthcare industry is not lacking for data – but using that data to generate actionable insights that drive clinical and process improvements is another matter.

For healthcare organizations experiencing difficulty launching and sustaining data-driven performance improvement projects, one potential solution to consider is more flexible organization design and increasing self-service data access.

The next public health pronouncement or clinical treatment might emerge from synthetic data: rows of totally invented people that contain no real data but reflects the actual characteristics of a population such as race, gender, and medical conditions.

Now, the ongoing focus on ML for processing large volumes of molecular, biochemical, and genomic data continues to lay the groundwork for innovation in 2024.

Just as last year, digital transformation continues to be the answer to many of the challenges still facing our healthcare system. The industry has been digitally transforming for decades now, but the sheer volume of data we are collecting now is continuing to drive innovation.

The paper focuses specifically on strengthening resilience for hospitals, patients, and communities threatened by cyber-attacks. The paper details four pillars for action, including publishing new voluntary health care-specific cybersecurity performance goals, working with Congress to develop supports and incentives for domestic hospitals to improve cybersecurity, and increasing accountability and coordination within the health care sector.
